My mom has lost 4 out of 8 of her sisters to brain anerism, last November 2001, her 4th sister suddenly past away @ age 44, scared because this was my 4th aunt I lost at such a young age, My brother and I talked my mom into being tested. She had a MRI done and tested positive for 2 anerisms one on each side of her brain, She was told she had to have a crainotomy surgery for the largest one because of the size and location of one and the after healing from that she could have the other removed by a coiling procedure. On 1/12/03 she under went craniotomy surgery, which caused her to have a stroke and left her with left side paralysis, and 2 weeks in intensive care and two weeks in rehabilitaton , she then was discharged home, Mentally she was still the same, she was making great progress with in home physical and ocupational therapy, then on 3/1/02 on our way shopping to celebrate her recovery our car was rear ended, my mom was airlifted to a bigger hospital, spent 3 more weeks in intensive care, this time diagnosed with at least mild post concussion syndrome. She is now back on her way to recovering from her stroke, and making pretty good recovery with getting movement back in her left side, but mentally she has suffered a lot and she has short term and some long term memory loss, personality wise she is quite a bit different, and says some off the wall things quite often. She seems to be getting better tho.I have read a few articles that had said that it could take 6- 9 monthes before her memory would get better. I would really like to hear from others who have had brain injuries, and I am sure that this would be a great support for my mother also when she gets better.
