Update March 20, 2006
I have some good news to report about my Brother. He has found his smile and sense of humor again. Although he says he doesn't remember being in the hospital at all, he remembers waking up in rehab and the doctors and nurses told him where he was and how he got there and whathappened as to why he was there. He has been full of questions about his accident so we've told him what we know. He does suffer from some confusion but his attention span has gotten alot better. He says he can't see far away but can see close up and he still has a hard time focussing with his left eye which was pushed in and badly damaged and they thought he was going to be blind but he isn't.He walked in a circle last week but he walked which is good. He is starting to eat puree foods and thick drinks like nectar. All he does is drink and drink all the time , lol. I guess I can't say I blame him though i would to after not being able to eat and drink after 2 months. He still flirts with the nurses and his therapists , lol. He still has alot of pain in his left arm and leg from the nerve damage from breaking his c1 vertebrate and calcium deposits . He thinks they're going to replace his arm with a robotic one and spray paint some skin on it to make it look real. Thats how confused he is. He gets to come home on March 31st and we are happy he's comming home.
On January fifth of this year my older brother Leslie was a victim of a drinking and driving accident. Les, we believe was not wearing his seat belt and was thrown out of the car when it flipped after hitting a telephone pole.We were told when my brother was thrown out of the car he went airborn , as high as the power lines and landed on his face and head. My brother sustained severe brain damage to his frontal lobe, a c1 spine fracture, a broken and dislocated left shoulder and arm, a fractured pelvis and all of his facial bones were crushed. He has already had one of the many facial reconstructive surgeries which it lasted about 8 hours. He now has a plate for his forehead and they worked for three hours on his sinuses. He was in a coma for about a week and a half and come out of it. Although he has not been able to talk to us yet due to a broken jaw and being wired shut we are hopefull he will be able to talk to us soon. He is now in one of the best rehab facilities in our state and has made great progress and has amazed his doctors and nurses throughout. We , his family are impressed but know he can do it because of the fighter he is and always has been.I will continue to pray for him and others who have injuries like his as well.
