Update May 2006
Here it is may 29th five years after my tbi. I have recently recieved my results from the battery of test I had taken with Easter Seals. The results of course, reconfirm that I have a severe head injury. It stated that I have severe depression and inablity to comprehend or learn. It really gave a grim outlook as far as school or work are concerned. I am very positive though. There is life after a tbi. I have achieved nothing I have asked for but everything I could have hoped for. Despite my brain injury I am a blessed man and am an advocate for all of you fellow tbi survivors out there as well as those involved in alcohol related incidents. I am living my dreams by serving others with the gifts that the Lord has given me. He has blessed me with many gifts so I use them to help others. I am happy and will die a happy man as long as I live knowing I have made a difference.
On May 28, 2001 I was hit head on by a drunk driver. He was going the wrong way on the highway. I lay there dying on the side of the highway. I had bilateral femur fractures broken in my tibia and fibia on both sides were broken in half, my heel crushed, my heart stopped twice, my liver failed, and I suffered a traumatic brain injury. I was in a coma for one month. I was told I would probably never walk again. In September of 2001 I was walking with the aid of a walker. In January I was Walking with no assistance at all. Since then I have developed a spinal disease that has gotten me to have to sometimes use a wheelchair but I am sure I will beat that also. The important thing is to be a survivor and not a victim. I desire to help make a positive difference in as many peoples lives as possible. The most memorable part of my brain injury was when I was learning how to talk and remember things it was like being a baby all over again. Although most might think it would be a negative experience, I think back and believe that it was cool because I got to relive some very good memories that I may have forgotten forever had I not tried to in order to aid in my memory skills.
