Art "Mouse" Moore

June 4 1994 is the night I rember little of. I had a choice, I worked for the govt., and had a DJ. comp. of my own. My choices after bowling were, go home, go setup for the next nights DJ job or go to the VFW. I decided to go home.

Driving home at 50 mphs in the left lane a truck pulled out on my right. Without looking he decided to make a U-Turn, There was no time to do anything. I hit him at 50 mph. They tell me that after they cut me out of my little truck that I got out, talked to the cops, had my wife pick me up and refused treatment. The only visiable sign was a scratch on my hand.

The next day I could'nt move and I had a terrible headache. I also had a hard time remebering things. I had my wife take me to the doctors office. Found out I had injured my back. They told me my headache was from the injury. After being put on morphine, codine, deluadet, demorial, and others for two years, the pain was still there. I tried to go back to work but could not remeber what my job was, so the govt. had to let me go.

The doctors started running tests on me. I lost all the things you take for granted, reading, writing, talking, and understanding what people are saying. The doctors finally found out that I damaged the left temporal and left frontal lobes of my brain. GREAT! Now what? They told me my condition could improve with time but I would never recover. ( sound familiar ).

Now it's five years later, After putting myself in the hospital to take myself off the pain medication. My wife could'nt cope with the daily routine anymore so she left after twelve years of marriage. Now I am learning to do things for myself all over again. It's been hard but I am gaining ground. I have new friends, not many but they are coping with me and are helping.

I wish that I could function again but life goes on. I put my story here because it's the first time I had a chance to tell it and tell others.

Thanks
