Ashley Aaron "Crazy Gibson" Gibson

On August 1, 2000 , I was in a near death motor vehicle accident. I was at work, and I was driving the company truck. It was an 84 Chevrolet Truck and it was one of the company trucks. In the back there were 6 caterpillar tires, thats grossly 1800 lbs. It was a half ton truck. I was in Hurst,TX almost to my destination when a sports car erratically passed me. I swerved and slammed on the brakes and this made the tires shift. This made the truck get up on two wheels and i slid from the drivers of the truck to the passenger side because I was not wearing a seatbelt. This knocked me unconcious. According to my parents I went into oncoming traffic and hit 3 vehicles head-on. I then went upside down on a guardrail. Both of my legs were broken and I had a compound fracture on my right leg. Also, my right arm went out the wing window (the little window in front of the main window). Also my head was in between a small V in between the passenger door and the cab. It took the paramedics over an hour to cut me out the truck with the jaws of life. I was in a coma for 27 days , then I was an inpatient at a rehabilitation hostpital for 6 weeks , then I went to CNS (Centre for Neuro Skills) for 2 weeks. I really hated the way things were done there so my parents came and took me home and then I was in the outpatient program at the HealthSouth rehabilitation hospital for 6 weeks. Since then I am almost fully recovered and I go to the YMCA in Benbrook, TX to keep my body conditioned. I have Texas workers Compensation for my insurance and all this hasn't cost me anything except my time and patience and a few heartaches.

But, I am satisfied with the way things have turned out for the most part. I Wish any and every other Brain Injury survivor all the luck in world because I know how it is to suffer through this.
