B.Y. "Brent" Bowles

Hello: my name is Brent,

I am a survivor of a brain injury. I got hit by a car when I was four years old. That was in 1949. This injury really changed my life dramatically. Since having my automobile accident I have come along way, that is that I have made alot of progress in dealing with all of the side effects due to my Tramatic Brain Injury. I have epileptcy due to scared tissue in my brain, and I take medicine regularly to help control any seizures that I may get. I probably will have to take this medicine, plus others that I have to take for the rest of my life. I have excepted taking the medicine, but I have a hard time dealing with some of the side effects of my brain injury. The medicine is expensive, but it could be worse. If only Medicare would help pay for my medicine. This is my first letter , so try to understand that I may make either spelling or typing errors, and I am nervous even though I can not see any of you. Some of the biggest and most embarassing problems due to my injury is that I have a short and a long term memory. I also have the problem focussing on subjects for any length of time. I forget very easily. I can remember faces , but when it comes to names they just do not stick. I imagine that most of you have similiar problems. I would appreciate it very much if someof you out there would write me and tell me some things about yourselves. Some days it is very hard for me, so if any of you could give me some encouragment it would be great. I also had something happen to me in that my family has died. This has created alot of sadness and lonelyness. If any of you has ever expierenced this please tell me ways that you have copped with it. The deaths of both my parents and my brother has really hurt, both my brain injury and the deaths have been hard for me. I hope that this letter reaches some understanding people. God bless you all.
