Beverly "Bevy" Gray

Hello, my name is Beverly. My husband and I moved to Germany in 2000. We were both taking Collage courses and going to the gym 5 days a week. On May 29 2002 Travis and I were running on the treadmill when something happened (I do not remember what)I woke up 2 day's later in a German Hospital. Travis told me that I had came off the treadmill and hit the concreat wall behind me, he did not see it happen but when he looked over to me I was not there, but on the floor. I fractured my skull, with it being a closed wound the blood had nowhere to go and my brain was swelling. After surgery I had a stroke brought on by TBI. I lost the use of the left side of my body. The Doctor's told me that I was lucky, that had I not been in the shape that I was at the time of the accident that I would not have come back a quick as I did. I did not want to go to rehab but thank God that I did, it was very hard for me not being able to speak any German and with no family there but Travis It was sheer determanition. Going from running a 10 min mile to using a walker was a big blow to my ego. Now almost 2 years later I look fine but I stay dizzy walk into things and I cannot smell, taste, I have no gag reflex and headaches 5 out of 7 days.I also lost me, I am not the same person and I now have 2 different personility's. I call them voices in my head but the Doctors have yet to help me with that so I just deal with it (it is not always easy ). I know that I am very lucky things could be worse. So I thank God everyday that I am OK.
