On labor day weekend I rolled my pride and joy, a 1972 Scout 2. Niether my friend or I were wearing seat belts(luckilly) and both of us were thrown from the vehicle. My friend got up and I didn't. An emt just happened to be driving home from Billings, only to stumble upon my mishap (as the dust was still flying).
I was in the extremely rural area of Kaycee Wyoming, so I had to be life flighted to Casper. Upon my arrival I had a hole drilled in my head to relieve the pressure and had my spleen removed.
I broke both shoulders, but only one rib. I spent 2 weeks in a coma and about 1 in a net bed. I came to around my birthday (i rolled 9/2 and turned 19 on 9/27) and wanted to know why I couldn't walk and why I was in the hospital. I was in the rehab unit for a month, outpatient rehab for 3 1/2 months, and am now living with my grandfather. It has been 8 months now, and everyone is amazed at my recovery. I still have balance and right side coordination problems that don't allow me to return to work (iam an automotive machinist so i kind of need coordination), and vision problems that don't allow me to drive yet. My recovery is now so slow that it is frustrating, but I have learned to live with it. So to anyone who reads this, don't give up. Head injuries are not fun, but they are something that we must learn to live with when stricken, and give it time.
