My friend and I were swimming in the pool at his appartment, while I was on leave. To return to his appartment i jumped on the hood of his car for a ride.Having a high alcohol blood level did not help me keep my balence and the speed bumps did not help either.f.All I know is that i fell off the hood and landed on my head. That was jan 11 86.
After finding out it was suddwnly feb and I was in a hospital everything went down hill.I was released with my brother to fly home to New Orleans for admission to the V.A. hospital there.Arriving at the va and waiting all day I was released for follow up and diagnosed,by a doctor who had not read my chart(i was holding it),as schizophrenic to be followed by neurology.that is only the begining.
I had no family that knew me or wanted to know me.I was (am)the youngest of ten childred and felt like a burden to everyone. No job ,only the VA for health insurasnce, and no prospects of going anywhere.I did not understand what was wrong or what to do about it.I tried working but my anger at whatever stopped that often.Eventualy I got socialsecurity disability and an appartment.Still doing a few odd jobs and having made a few friends i started to live again.for rehab I spent almost five year alone rebuilding myself and trying to find out what I was suppose to be doing.I moved a few times changing cities and states and finaly ended up in colorado.here i met my wife and started to live a little bit of a life (this wife is mv third)and enjoy myself.
Now I workout seven days a week (see pictures below) and volunteer my time to teach weight training classes.I hope to compete in the western state bodybuilding competition this oct and nov and get some other tbi survivors interested in physical fitness so they can enjoy the benifits of feeling good and making even a small part of life easier.
