I am a T.B.I. survivor and would like to introduce myself. My name is Brent Young Bowles. I had my injury due to an automobile accident when I was four years old. That was in 1949. I can't remember to - much of it because of my age then. I only know what I was told by my Mother, Father and Brother. It really changed my life, but through the hard work of my Doctors, Nurses and both my Parents and Brother whom I will allways be grateful too. I am learning how to cope with all the side effects of a person having a head injury, or A Tramatic Brain Injury. Speaking of side effects some of the ones that I have that you can relate to are; the following , a Short and Long Term Memory Problem, being able to Focus on a Subject for any Length of Time' Forgetfullness, I can not remember putting things at a certain place, I missplace things and cannot remember where I had them last. I can remember peoples faces, but their names and remembering dates is very hard. It is very frustrating at times. I also have Epileptsy, that is Scared Tissue that has formed in the Left Side of my Brain. I also have Depression problems, due to my Automobile Accident in 1949. When I had my injury back then they did not have some of the medical, and other resources that someone that has a TBI injury can take advantage of today. Even some medicines were not available to me then. I am very thankfull to both my parents and brother who helped me to make an adjustment to my new life. I am currently taking medications for my seizures and depression that I will have to take for the rest of my life.
I also had another Life Changing Expierence that also has had an effect on my
life a-lot. The deaths of my Father, Mother and Brother really made me
depressed that much more. It is very lonely and sad for me. Its like loosing
your whole immediate family which I have. The hollidays, especially at
Christmas time, because my Father's birthday was on Christmas Day,
Thanksgiving, New Years, Easter and all the others that would bring all family
together no longer applies to me. These two changing expierences cause me to
take anti depressants. There is another thing that applies to people with
T.B.I injuries, and that is a means of transportation. It is
really bad if all your family as in my case have died. If there are others like me
out there that would like to coorespond or write to me, and tell me your tbi
expierences, and how you are dealing with them, and also if your parents and brother
have died how you have dealt with it.
God Bless YOU All!!!
