The TBI Chatroom |
We hit a tree. I don't remember anything, only what everyone has told me. The last thing I remember was leaving the house. I'm told that the ambulance took me to the hospital to the trauma unit in ER. They said I was complaining of servere headache and pain in my left hip. Off I went for a CT scan of my head. After the CT scan they were going to release me even though I was not conscious, they told my parents and fiance that I had a concussion.
I guess I was thrashing about when the trauma Dr. decided to do another CT scat. Well it was during this scan that I went into a grand mal seizure so they immediately took me back to trauma after detecting a bleed on my brain. They ended up intebating me and putting me on life support until I was stable enough to take up to ICU. I spent a few days in ICU which I don't remember and then transferred to the neurology/orthopaedic floor which by the way is where I work. Can you imagine my co-workers when they found out they would be taking care of one of their own. Well besides the brain injury I also sustained a fractured left hip. Needless to say my life has changed significantly. I am a mother of three and was robbed of that for the time being. Looking back, my life was so perfect before the accident. I had my fiance, my three kids, my home, my health, my job, my new van and in an instant that was all taken away. I am slowly getting back to where I was but believe me, I'll never be the same. I do thank God that I am alive and on the road to recovery, but it's a long and windy road. To all of you who have been through this please keep on trudging that uphill battle. Don' give up and let it beat you, you have to beat it. To those who haven't experienced this tradegy, please thank God for what you have because you truly don't know what you have til it's gone. If anyone needs to talk about anything, you can gladly email me anytime. My email address isDen81061@aol.com.
Thanks for listening to my story.
