D.J.

Hello....My name is D.J. and my precious 18 year old son was in a car wreck on April 27,2000. He was in the back seat of a small car when another car ran a red light and the vehicle he was in plowed into the other car. Apparently, Jeremy's car spun several times. My beautiful child did not have a mark on him, but when I first saw him in the hospital, he had a respirator tube in his mouth and was unconscious and headed to get his 2nd cat scan. We were 2 hours away from him and found out later that he had already had 1 cat scan because of his disorientation and combativeness at the scene and at the emergency room. Thank God! The CT's showed multiple contusions of the front part of his brain....2 main bruises in the frontal lobes. Thankfully, the 2nd CT did not reveal any more swelling..as did the 3rd the next day. It has been a very long 10 days....but as I am writing this, we are planning to leave the hospital tomorrow and check Jeremy into a HealthSouth rehabilitation hospital for some extensive observation and beginning therapy. I am a little unsure of what to expect, but am very hopeful for a tremendous recovery and progress. Jeremy is eating better now and a little more like Jeremy than a couple of days ago when he started coming out of the medications, etc. (He's a very amiable kid and a little stubborn. One example, he pulled out his own respiratory tube! Scary at the time, but a fun story to relate now!) He is kind of grumpy with his dad and myself, but when his girlfriend or his friends come by, he tends to be more his "kid" self. His dad and I take advantage of it too, you can be sure! That's when we get him to eat the most and go walking in the hall or around! : ) We don't care who he progresses for...just as long as he progresses! I can thankfully say that I know he is not as bad as many out there, but I also know that we have some changes in store for our family. I would welcome any feedback from people out there who know more about these things than I do!
