The TBI Chatroom |
This has been so long ago, don't be suprised of the apparent holes.
Had a car accident on 8/21/80 in Phoenix. I have never liked driving on freeways, so I was on the backroads and missed a four-way stop. Car was broadsided on right. The metal was pushed to driver's side. Luck has it that I was driving and not wearing a seat belt which probably saved my life. The other vehicle was a pick-up and a passenger lost a finger. I on the other hand was was hurt the worst. Besides the head injury, I had a craked pelvic, collapsed left lung, and the little finger on left hand broken.
Was in Barrows Neurological Insitute, then in 10/80 Good Sam Rehab, then the Long term care unit in Gila General. Don't know how long I was in a coma, but was in hospitals for 13 months. A hospital wouldn't let a person leave if in coma, right?
In all that time being under professionals, no one stumbled to the fact I was deaf. I was already home and mentioned it to my niece.
Have such a time getting therapy, but that is another story in itself.
