Greg Fischer
My name is Greg Fischer and I am 49 yrs old. I have been married to the same wonderful lady, Sharon, for 26yrs. We have a great 12yr old daughter, Sarah. My accident occurred on Memorial Day , 3 yrs ago. Riding my motorcycle always helped me feel better after working 10hrs, 6 days a week at the local gun manufacturing factory. I stopped at the local watering hole to meet 2 friends. I had a beer while waiting, and some guy next to me bought me some Schnapps because I was a veteran on this holiday, and that is what we drank in Germany. The friends didn't show up so I rode home alone. I can't remember but somehow I went off the side of the rode. I don't know if an oncoming car was passing in my lane or a coyote or elk ran across the road. I hit two metal posts that hold barbwire and got my head injury. Some people stopped and found me llaying with my head on the wire. They called the authorities and I was taken to the local hospital. From there I was flown to Phoenix to a trama unit. That was my first ride in a helicopter. I saw too many of them crash in the military. What was left in those crashes they simply scooped up and put them in a dump-truck. I am glad I was not consciousness. I was three weeks in the hospital and then transferred into a rehab unit. I spent 3 months there, and it was very helpful. I even got back my second religion in praying to get better and go home to be a daddy to our daughter. Now that i am home its been a whole new experience for me, being a "house dad". I never realized how much work it was cooking, cleaning, and doing the laundry.
It has been 3 yrs. since my accident and my balance is not so good so I have given up riding my motorcycle. I have been riding Harleys for 30yrs and never had a big crash. Of course there were many times I should have, driving too fast and crazy on unfamiliar roads.
The most important thing to me now is being home and to be a daddy.I am thankful for that ! I'll have to find some new hobbies now. I've always liked gold lpanning, and trout fishing. So I'll pursue those. My support group, the Design Group, is also very encouraging and that keeps me busy as well.
