James Stuart

It was early in the morning June 18, 1984. I was on my way to a friends home, on the 401 when the front tire blew. The car now hopelessly out of control, rolled and sent me out throughthe T-bar roof which was in the trunk. My life was changed forever in an instant, so the first doctors told my family. The usual emergency response teams responded, worked at the scene, and rushed me to the nearest hospital.

I remained in a coma for the first six months after the accident. Then I regained consciousness just before Christmas 84. What would the doctors say about this devolpment. The first far from encouraging, believed I would not get out of bed. However a K.W. Physican was more hopeful Diagnsed me with Pelegia, a condition attributed to months of inactivity caused by the coma. Fluid on my brain meant I had to have a shunt put in to drain the unwanted substances from my brain down to my stomach.

Despite the challenges and often less than enthusiastic attitudes of others toward my improvement, I would not go down for the count. My muscles could always be built back up again and I was determined. Despite my numerous hospital stays, I was making signigant progress. A little more than two years ago I moved into my own apartment at the local Independent Living Centre.

I have a very optimistic attude, because the doctors said that I'd probably never get out of bed and here I am in my own apartment.I don't have a job YET even though I've taken courses about everything from Sicology to Socioloy. Sure I still need a little help but I can atleast find a little privacy unlike the hospital. I write a few poems now to kill time between meals, I've written some 700 in the past 15 years. So I guess that you could say that I have an abundance of spare time on my hands. Well that's all that I can think of to tell you right now, I'll keep you up to date if here are any further developments.

P.S. No photograph right now so I will tell you about me. I am six foot three inches, I have shoulder length brown hair.
