James "Jeb" Black

Jeb's wreck occured on Nov. 4, 1006, he had just turned 31 on Oct. 1. He was a passenger in a car south of Ft. Worth, Texas. He did not have his seat belt on, and the driver went to sleep and ran off the road, she tried to pull it back and that is when the car flipped. Jeb was thrown out of the car and hit the road, frontal lobe damage. They life flighted him to Harris Methodist Ft. Worth Hospital.

That was the luckiest thing that happenned to him all day. They had to bag him on the way to the hospital. After about 14 hours they put in a bolt to check for the pressure. They kept his pressure under control for the next few days and then they took it out. He openned his eyes on the 14th day. He was in ICU for 3 weeks and in the hospital for 5 more weeks. During this time, he had a peg tube, a trac, although these were removed before he left the hospital.

We flew to Alabama, where I live, and he was taken to Rotary Rehab. He was there for 26 days and they were the worst. He would not talk or walk and seemed very angry. I brought him home on Jan 23, 2007 and with in 15 days he was walking and talking. Not good but he was doing these things. The doctor gave him ambien to sleep and after 2 weeks it started waking him up. That is what I gave him to get him out of the bed in the morning. I have since have not had to give it to him.

He is doing well and for a while had temper tantrums and used awful language. Sometimes he does not know that I am his mother. I understand that is face blindness. The doctor said he has anoxia. He was a math major in college and can still do some algebra.I believe in my heart that he will be able to do anything that he wants, but I get scared sometimes. I am retired and someone has to be with him all of the time. Right now, he seems a little fearful and wants someone with him all the time. I gues I can update this at a later date.
