Update November, 2005
I just wanted to let anybody interested know that I graduated from medical school and I am now a first year emergency medicine resident in Michigan. Be careful what you wish for because dreams do come true! No, I'm just kidding. I enjoy what I am doing even though every shift in the ER is a challenge. I hope that my story has inspired you. Could my head injury have been a blessing in disguise? What a painful blessing! Thank you.

I won't give the whole story here, but one day I may write a book about what happened to me. This is for all traumatic brain injury survivors, and anybody else who might find this story inspirational. Ten years ago, I suffered a mild closed head injury after being struck by a drunk driver. To make a very long story short, I have gone on to receive an associates degree from Washtenaw Community College, and a bachelors degree in science from the University of Michigan. By no means was this an easy feat. Attention and concentration and memory problems forced me to work twice as hard for mediocre grades. However, I never gave up and today I feel completely rehabilitated. I am not the same as a I used to be -- I'm better.

I started off wanting to be a physician. Something I would not have considered until I had read Anthony Robbins book, "Awaken the Giant Within". This allowed me to see things differently and to believe I could do anything I wanted to if I worked hard enough and stayed focused. Today I am living my dream.

After seven years of college, I finally applied to medical school and I was accepted this year. I really had my doubts, but I realized that I could either not try and wonder what would have happened or I could go for it. It was a difficult time applying to medical school, something that requires hours taking and preparing for the MCAT and countless hours filling out applications. I had applied to nineteen schools; I had two interviews and I was accepted at both of the schools where I interviewed.

I will be starting medical school in August. I am very excited and scared about the amount of information I will be handed. But the attitude that got me to this point will help me to succeed. This will be my biggest challenge so far. I am looking forward to the clinical part of school because I currently work in an emergency room. However, the first two years in the class room should be grueling!

THANKS FOR READING THIS. I HOPE IT HELPS.
