The TBI Chatroom |
I was told by doctors that he would never eat again(only tube fed),never respond, never understand, and have no memory. This was very upsetting and instead of listening to them I pushed ahead. It has been an uphill battle to this day. Today he is in a nursing home, because there is no other place for him(at least no place our provincial government is willing to pay for). There is a Brain Injury Facility, with much success in the province but they say it is too expensive. My son is only 26 years old and he has proven so many people wrong.
Today he can eat whatever he likes, is learning to communicate with the use of a computer, uses his right index finger to answer yes and no, has been tested and proven to understand, remember(long and short term). He has learned a lot by consistent work from myself and an attendent who is an angel.
Whenever I want more help for him it is a battle and in the meantime he is suffering from the lack of proper care. I have stayed by his side, even spending many 24 hour days in the nursing home giving him the care they are paid to provide but at most times, don't.
I will never stop caring for my son and fighting for what he should have done for him. I feel it is a battle that will take its toll on my life, but someone has to do it and after all I am his Mom.
He is a loving young man and has gotten into many hearts of the people he meets, but we can't seem to open the hearts of the right people.
Forgive me for going on but I need help in order to help fight for the right care for this young man. We have many battles ahead, one being the use of a hyperbaric chamber, one of which is in the city of Halifax where my son now resides.Pleaase pray for us.
