Kevin Dimock

My name is Kevin Dimock, I suffered a TBI from a Motorcycle accident in 1978. Life has been a challenge, I thank God I can tell my story. I was in the U S Navy at the time, labor day weekend 1978, I went to the mountains to be with some friends. My friend and myself took a ride around the area on separate motorcycles. We were just cruising around, my friend decided to go ahead of me, I followed. I came out of a turn and there was my buddy smack dab in the middle of the road, I had to react quickly, since the cliff was to my left and a four thousand foot drop. I went to the right and hit a pole. I don't remember hitting the pole, but I can still visualize going over the handle bars. I wasn't wearing a helmet, I hit the ground pretty hard head first, I did not know or feel this. I woke up when the paramedics were there. I do remember them asking me my name and my buddy would answer for me. I went back out and awoke in the hospital that evening. I was in the emergency room, this was on a Sunday. I was transported to a room and there I laid, suffering with terrible headpain, for five more days until they decided to do a cat scan of my brain, this was now Thursday, the accident was on Sunday. Friday morning I was taking a bath, now that I was having trouble standing. I remember the nurse coming in and telling me not to eat or drink anything after my bath. The surgeon came in next, he explained what was wrong with me. He told me I had a blood clot on the brain and it was growing. I was told that I had to have surgery to remove the blood clot. I agreed, of course, I was told I had only a 50/50 chance of survival, that was even. I had the operation and was told later that I had 2 blood lots on the brain 1 on the right side and 1 on the front. I was released from the hospital after 1 week of recovery. After twenty years I'm finally getting treatment, since being left out in the cold, not knowing anything about after effects of TBI. I'm only on medication and see a Psychiatrist about once a month. I live with many difficulties related to this TBI and finally now am I finding answers and help.
