The doctors suspected that I had Hydrocephalus back in 1974. That is when they installed my first shunt, I went 21 years or so without problems & then I made up for lost time, so to speak. I developed a number of bacterial infections & the shunt replacements kept adding up. After all of my hydro-related surgeries were complete, I went on to school. I made the "Whose Who Among American High School Students" & continued on to college. I received my Associates Degree in Nursing in 1994. While I was working on the Alzheimer unit of a local nursing home, one of my patients became violent & I was struck in the head while attempting to restrain him. The blow caused my shunt to malfunction & threw me into violent seizures. It also caused problems with my short term memory, I have problems recalling basic tasks such as grocery lists etc... I also seem! t! o become disoriented quite easily. In 1999 I married my childhood sweetheart, as in many cases, my wife struggles to understand & help me deal with what's happening. Our husbands & Wives truly deserve medals. Thank-you for being so patient with us.
