Lonnie "lonman" Davis

My name is Lonnie Davis. I am a survivor of a MVA on January 11th, 1984. I was 18 years old and a senior in high school. On the day of the 11th I purchased a 1966 VW Beetle Convertible. About 6 hours later the brakes failed and a tractor-trailer hauling Kingsford Charcoal struck the car ripping the front of the car off just behind the front seats. The gas tank being in front, exploded and caught on fire. The back of the car just kept going down the road. I was thrown clear of the flames along with both front seats. I landed 78 feet from the point of impact. I suffered a LeFort II/III Complex Facial Fracture (the skull is separated from the face and crushed), my right femur went through my pelvis and into my abdomen, I nearly severed my left hand, punctured a lung, lost most of my stomach, and last but not least, I ruptured my aorta which in turn caused me to be an incomplete T3 paraplegic. When I had my accident there didn't seem to be a lot of emphasis on closed head injuries. The most notable

Fifteen years later and a whole lot of questions answered, I have finally been diagnosed with TBI. It is almost a relief to finally find out why I do some of the things that I do. I guess that sounds kind of funny, but it is no laughing matter. I feel as if a tremendous weight has been lifted off of my shoulders and now I can finally begin to rebuild my life with my wife and my four wonderful children. Anyway, I don't mean to bore anyone, but thanks, you guys have been good for me. I know I am not alone.
