Lorri

Hi! my name is Lorri, and I am writing today about my husband , Jeff and the importance of wearing helmet's! My husband made two bad choices on the afternoon of Sept.16th ,2000. One being, drinking WAY too much beer , and Two , he decided to go for a ride on his skate board without a helmet, on a steep ,busy road! When he started to gain too much speed and since his judgement was off ,due to the alcohol he had consumed, he ultimately wiped out SMACKING his head on the hard concrete several times! leaving him on the side if the street and unconscience! He was air evac'd to Las Vegas University Medical Center Trauma Unit, where he spent a total of 12 days / 5 of them being in a COMA !!!! He had a fracture to his occiptal area and brusieing on the occiptal lobe and his frontal lobe as well ,due to to force on impact and his brain bouncing all around! Then we got to bring him to our home town to do a weeks stay in an in-patient rehab center. I am happy to say that he is home now [ today ,it has been 3 weeks since the accident ] and doing out-patient rehab for an undetermined amount of time! We have a long road ahead on his recovery, and we aren't sure if he'll ever be 100% again ! but I have my husband and our kids have their father ! and I Thank The Lord for our second chance, and pray for the strength and courage to complete this journey ahead!

I would like to say to all the kids out there and adults as well WEAR A HELMET !!! when on a skate board , bike , roller blades etc... You may not think it looks "Cool " but I'll tell you this.. it would look a lot cooler than laying strapped to a hospital bed with tubes running in and out of your body , preforming for you because your brain is damaged and can't do the job it's suppose to ! I don't want to EVER go through any thing even remotely close to this again! and i pray that no one else has to either! GOD BLESS!
