Going back to Feb 2004 my young daughter Megan fell over and knocked her head. She seemed okay at first but then became apparent she was concussed, she became hysterical, vomited and then unconcious. Called ambulance, took us to hospital. She was put on a ventilator given a Ct scan and taken to intensive care wherewe were told there were no problems and she should be awake sometime soon. Four weeks later and still in a coma - Doctors suggesting a migraine coma, shewas taken off the ventilator and could breath on her own. Megan has bodily movements, dilated pupils, sense of smell touch and hearing. She has been moved to a ward now as she is stable, but it is very hard to watch your once healthy child have to be tube fed, cannot communicate or do much else. Latest MRI results have shown further white matter damage, optical and right frontal lobe. Her sleep wake patterns are back to front, she is being given seizure meds.Apparently this migraine coma has not been seen for approx 25 years - very rare. I would like to know if there is anyone out there who has information, experience with this or any treatments or outcomes for my still comatose 5yr old girl which has now been nine weeks of heartbreaking waiting.
Megans' mum Margaret.
