Mary H "One Day at a Time"

November 2, 2005 is the day that changed our lives forever, and "TBI" is now forever in our vocabulary. My husband Dale, was in a motorcycle accident, returning home from work that evening. He had major skull fractures (to the left side of his head), resulting in the brain injury he has today. It has been a long road, but he has made much progress. He is home with me, after a long year in the hospital (was back to the hospital for a month, after the initial shunt that had been placed malfunctioned due to an infection- the second one placed made a world of difference ! )/ and inpatient rehab. He struggles with "aphasia", memory loss, fatigue, emotions, and the "slowness" his mind struggles with daily. I have been frequently reading your stories, and viewing the "chats" and have found much inspiration from you all. No one truly understands what we and are loved ones are going through, unless you are going through it yourself. Even my husband's and my families, Bless them, don't understand the magnitude of Dale's struggles daily. We are living "One day at a time", and I am there for Dale forever. I work during the day, as he is able to stay home by himself, I only wish I was able to be home with him more, to get him out and about, but I need to keep the bills paid, and the insurance going. He has come so far since the accident, but I know we have a long road ahead yet. I am very optimistic that he will continue to improve and I pray everyday. Thanks for letting me share my story, and I will try to start getting involved with the "chats"- just don't get on the computer much at home- am able to "read" everyone's stories though at work daily. God Bless you all and we will all get through this "one day at a time".
