The TBI Chatroom |
My name is Micah Mcelhattan. I was a totally "normal" whatever normal is, teenager. I t was my 18th birthday and I was skiing in Snowmass, CO. It was a great vacation, so I've been told. My mom said I told her that day 2-28-00 that this was the best vacation I had ever been on. It was towards the end of the day and I was jumping. I landed my jump wrong and fell on my head "without" a helmet. I was unconscious immediately. I was taken to Aspen Valley hospital and then air lifted to Grand Junction, Co. I guess I had a GCS of 3 when I arrived. I remained in a coma for 3 weeks. My family was devastated. They prayed and prayed for me as well as many other people across the USA. My parents had me flown back to Pittsburgh when I was stabilized and then on to Harmerville Rehab. Hospital. I am home now and doing physical & speech therapy on an outpatient basis. I had frontal lobe injuries and brain shears on the left and right side of my brain. I have a hard time dealing with my emotions and I can't cry yet.
I was supposed to graduate with the class of 2ooo. I was unable because I missed so much school. I will try to finish next year. God has been very good to me and my family. If it wasn't for Him, I wouldn't be here today. I truly am a walking miracle. I have a ways to go but thru Christ, I will make it thru.
This is my story, it's a bummer it had to happen but it did. If anyone has any advice please email me.
Thank you
