Monte C. McIntire

Hi, my name is Monte C. McIntire

June 23,1993 the scaffold I was working on came apart and I fell 15' and landed on the back and right side of my head, I was told by people I was working with. I was taken to the hospital at 3:00 pm. and had the bad luck to arrive around the same time as two victims of a gang shooting. They were more critical than I so after a few x-rays showed a burst fracture of l-1 vertebrae and 3 broken ribs I was left in the emergency room until 2:00 am. when they took me to a room. I had surgery on my spine the 1st of July when they placed three rods in my back. My wife complained to the doctors about my speech and jerking and told them they should be concerned about stroke or brain damage. After 6mos. the doctors were wondering why my symptoms were lingering because they thought the effects of concussion should be wearing off by then.

I was finally sent to a psychologist for "evaluation" he found seven areas of dysfunction. He was pessimistic about recovery, but invested in his first computer and a program he found "Brain Train" and has helped me make an excellent recovery.

While I have given up my dream of going back to work I am able to volunteer at the local VA Hospital. There were a lot of mistakes made in my care, but I believe the caregivers were doing the best they knew how. I can walk, talk, and look at pretty girls, what else can a man ask?

The hard road has and is being traveled by my wife. She has to do all the things she used to and all the things I used to. Not only is she doing well but she has shown me what Love really means. It was my lucky day when we married nothing can dim that.
