P.J. Kennedy
They call me PJ, and I am a survivor of a Traumatic Brain Injury. It happened in 1979 when I was 14 years old. It was just a couple of days after Christmas and I was riding with my friend on his motorcycle. He was taking me home from his house. We didn't bother putting helmets on. It was dark. The moon was not up yet and it was really dark. We went around the corner and there was a big "18 Wheeler" parked on the street without any lights on. His reflectors were all covered with mud and cement. Needless to say, we hit him good. Laying there on the road I was in and out of consciousness. My friend John kept asking me if I was all right. I remember saying to him "help". I lost consciousness again and went into a coma. It was near my home in Chandler. They transported me to St Luke's Hospital where I remained in a coma for nearly two months. I was on complete life support and lost weight till I was only 55 lbs. I remember very clearly God telling me "Don't worry everything will be all right". I thought often that I would have been happier had He taken me home to Heaven. Now I am all right. I was a vegetable; Lost my vision.
Could not walk.
Could not speak.
I died "5" times.
Broke my right hand in 8 places.
My right chin was busted.
I was paralyzed.
I am now back in the saddle again !
