The TBI Homepage |
I'm writing on behalf of my son David (Shed), he was only 17 years old at the time.
On Feb. 20, 2002 he had a fever of 103.6 & I rushed him to the hospital they immediately told me he had to be flown to All Children Hospital in St. Pete because he had a Brain Abscess and he only had 2 hours to live.
They did emergency surgery that night once I drove to the hospital to sign the paper work and they had to do surgery again on March 1, 2002, he finally got to go home on March 19, 2002. He still has to go to the doctors all the time, and he has to have CT's, MRI's, and blood work all the time and they say that he has sinus disease. They told me he had a sinus infection that became really bad, but all I thought he had was the flu.
He is totally different from the son I took to the hospital that day, he is almost always in a bad mood, he missed the last half of his senior year of high school, prom, gradnight, but he did make his graduation. He is now able to start college although he is not able to drive yet.
He is also in total denial that he is a different person now than before the brain surgery's.
This web site has been a blessing for me his mother. Could someone else who's dealing with Brain Abscess please email me at neicees@yahoo.com. Thank you, Neicee
