Robert "Bob" Eilers

Hi, my name is Robert Eilers, but you may know me Bob. Before my accident I was an engineer who traveled the United States designing and installing airport security checkpoints. You know those annoying metal detectors and tv camera's at the airport concourse.

My TBI occurred 12-11-92. I was coming home from work after working many long hours (16 hours a day for about 6 months) when I fell a sleep at the wheel of my not to well put together Japanese car. When I woke up I was headed for a nasty curve in the road that was covered with ice. Need I say more! What stopped me was a telephone pole. Unfortunately the car folded up like a piece of tinfoil and my seat belt came off. ( the car was later recalled for defective seat belts) I flew across the car to the passenger side when the seatbelt came lose and my head went through the passenger window being stopped by the phone pole. The rest is history. I broke my neck (same fracture as Chris Reeves the actor) (superman) and spent about 6 months in accoma, lost most of my right ear and sustained TBI.

I am thankful for my understanding wife and family. I couldn't have made the progress I have made without them. I continue to talk to chat on the TBI chat line other survivors and hope to return to some kind of employment someday.
