The TBI Homepage |
This is the first time I've ever personally decided to share my unfortunate story with the world. It was 25 November 2002, I was 16 years of age and had already been driving at this stage. A Friend of mine at that stage asked me if I wanted to drive his car and him mine(my mom's car) to see how fast they are against one another. I pulled up against another car on a main illegal street racing street in my area at that time, as he was still getting used to my car. the Robot went green and it was go time. we raced and went down a hill and then came up another. The paramedics say that the car, my friends, had ramped going over the hill effect, they say it must of lifted MAYBE 3mm, which is not a lot, not at all. The say that I must have been doing 160Km/h when my accident happened, there were not even skid marks on the road afterwards. Anyway, when the car 'ramped' going over the hill, it mad a 90% turn toward the right hand side.... causing me to collide with a street poll. My head hit the poll itself while I was in the drivers seat with my seat belt on. Fortunately for me, a paramedic, who was off duty at the time drove past the accident seconds after it had happened, he called for backup and they managed to save my lifeless body on scene. They then took me to the nearest hospital, my friend, driving my car. Had called my best friend and my mother, to get them to come to the scene. My mom was in tears and would not accept the fact that that was her son in that car wrapped around the poll. She was in a tremendous amount of shock. When I got to hospital, the neuro surgeon took me into a 4 hour surgery immediately. I was then put into a coma to help ease my brain. this comma lasted 2 weeks. During these two weeks, my parents were told that I have TBI(traumatic brain injury) and that the odds of me living out the first week were VERY VERY low. once I had managed to live through the first week, my parents were told that IF I manage to come out of the comma I will have the mental capacity of a 3 year old. My mom asked, "will he lose his intelligence?"... the doctor replied, no, he won't. nobody can ever looks their intelligence. Only the tools to broadcast it. What the doctors had said, was true, I did come out of the comma with the mental capacity of a 3 year old. after the first week of being out of my comma, I had managed to learn how to walk on my own and to speak a little. 3/4 weeks after that, I had managed to start making sense of things, I was walking, I got a little tone back into my voice and I had got back into the hang of things on my computer at home. I was then released from hospital. A month and a couple of days after I came out of my comma I managed to start working at my old work place again. During those couple of weeks, I discovered that I was mostly blind in my left eye and mostly deaf in my left ear. Reason being, the nerve's connecting to my ear and eye had been severely severed. Now a Year and a half+ later. I am working, and have pretty much a normal life, aside from my deaf ear, blind eye and alight effects of my brain injury. I would like to say to anyone who suffers from a brain injury of some sort. KEEP ON FIGHTING, never give up. Everything will be fine at the end :) Please feel free to drop me a mail, for help, for anything :)
