Stuart Shaw

In 1963 I was involved in a car accident outside my home in Hartlepool England. I was 5 years old at the time. (Hit by car). I was unconscious for eight weeks. Paralysed down my right side of body. My right leg was broken in three places. It was chrushed in the thigh area, so my father told me before his death. My arm was broken in two places. As a result of the accident I had to go to a speech therapist for years, plus I also had to learn to walk all over again. I suffered deafness in both ears. Although not complete, still it poses a problem. My education was also affected! Growing up has had it's difficulties. In 1981 I went to America and ended up staying for sixteen years. Because of my stay in the States my medical records have been destroyed. This poses problems, since I am not getting the help I should be. It has been a battle to get where I am today. I attend Queen Margaret University College in Edinburgh Scotland. Something I thought I would never be able to do. How do I get the help I think I am entitled too. As a result of the accident I still have problems, which I would like help with. I am not greedy in anyway, but I do think I should be getting help. My wife suffers from mental health problems, and I feel at times, though I have taken on a mountain, being her carer. I want to help others who have been through the same thing as well.
