I am Thomas W Worrell Jr. I am 27, I was 25 when I had my accident. I moved to California, near San Diego. My company transferred me out there to take over a facility that was going down. I didn't mind that since I like to golf and I was an amateur motorcycle racer. It was warm there 10 months out of the year. I traveled there quite a bit before my accident. I am an officer in the New Jersey Army National Guard. When I left I took a leave of absence so I could still retain my rank when and if I came back. I was a company commander when I left I went through the US Army as a private I went through Airborne school as a sergeant then I went to college and received my commission from the University of Pennsylvania. I just bought a new Corvette and I was about to buy a new house. The most important thing I was about to get engaged. I had to give up my motorcycle first, that was the condition. So I was out on my last weekend riding. My life was changed on Sept. 4 1995. That was when it happened. I decided to my race motorcycle out for a cruise up to Lake Tahoe. It was partly my fault because my friends that were behind me said they could not keep up once I broke 120m.p.h.. I like to travel the yellow line. That day was no different. The problem was a drunk driver was coming the other way in a dump truck. I hit him head on I flew over the truck and hit a telephone pole then I fell down the side of the mountain. The result was severe whiplash, just about every broken bone from my pelvis down including my back, and a somehow caught a flesh eating bacteria. I was in a coma for a month. I do not remember the accident itself and I am a little cloudy until about mid-Jan. The doctors did not think I would ever wake up. Then they told my parents I would achieve only half of my memory and I wouldn't ever walk again. Through determination I up and walking I am a full-time student at a local college. I still have a little problem speaking especially when I am tired but I see the results everyday of my hard work. I hope to return to work sometime soon. Tom Worrell
